Arnold G. Danielson, Chairman

Arnold Danielson is chairman and founder of Danielson Associates. He established the firm in 1977 and over the next 30 plus years built it into one of the leading bank advisory firms in the Northeast. Over the years, he has advised on more than 100 bank mergers with total deal values in excess of $5 billion and helped at least a dozen financial institutions in their efforts to survive difficult economic conditions. He was a frequent speaker at banking conventions and individual bank meetings.

Since the 1970s, Arnie has been a prolific writer on structural changes in the industry, both nationally and regionally. In 1976, he authored a booklet for the American Bankers Association on bank strategic planning, and his articles have appeared in numerous bank periodicals. He is best known for the annual and quarterly banking reports he has been writing for the firm since 1985.

In 2007, Arnie authored and published a book on the history of the consolidation of banking. This book, "Consolidation of Banking: or How Five Banks Bought 50% of America's Biggest Business," focuses on the change in industry structure brought about by deregulation and the impact of economic downturns. It is prescient background for understanding how we went from a widely disbursed banking industry to one that is dominated by a handful of banks that have moved into a full range of financial services.

Arnie is a native of Massachusetts and graduated from American University. He has served as an instructor at the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Prior to founding Danielson Associates, he worked as an anti-trust economist at the Federal Trade Commission, director of planning and acquisitions at a Fortune 500 industrial conglomerate and vice president of planning for what was then Maryland's largest bank.
